Lao Tzu (also spelled Laozi) was an ancient Chinese philosopher traditionally believed to have lived in the 6th century BCE. He is regarded as the founder of Taoism and the author of the Tao Te Ching, a short philosophical work about living in harmony with the Tao, or the natural way of the universe. His teachings emphasize simplicity, humility, balance, and the idea that the best action is often effortless and aligned with nature.
